1. ‘An Economic Incentive to Care’: Improving Behavioral Health Equity Boosts Bottom Lines
Payers and employers often have a blind spot when it comes to addressing inequities in behavioral health. Still, ignoring mental health care inequities can increase overall health care costs.
An analysis from Deloitte suggested that inequities have led to $320 billion in annual health care spending – “signaling an unsustainable crisis for the industry.”
That figure is expected to worsen.
2. New Bridge Foundation Named By Newsweek As One Of America's Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2023
New Bridge Foundation (NBF), Berkeley, CA, has been recognized by Newsweek and Statista as one of America's Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2023. This prestigious award, announced on August 16, 2023, is the fourth consecutive award received by NBF, making the treatment center an all-time winner. The list can be viewed on Newsweek's website.
The America's Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2023 list highlights the nation's top facilities based on quality of service, reputation, and accreditation relative to in-state competition. Facilities in the 25 states with the highest number of addiction treatment centers, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), were included in the survey.

4. How AI Brings The Human Element To SUD Treatment While Saving Time
Between 40 and 60% of people with substance use disorder relapse after detox and rehabilitation. Providers are eyeing artificial intelligence (AI) as a key to help improve that statistic.
The technology, which is not without its risks, has already been used for years in behavioral health treatment. In the substance use disorder (SUD) field, machine learning tech is being used to improve the connection between people struggling with SUD and care teams. SUD providers say the technology may add a human element to recovery support.
